Countryfile’s Matt Baker admits ‘double life’ after making big family decision

Matt Baker revealed in a recent interview that he now enjoys a “double life” after making a huge family decision.

The TV presenter finds himself “immersed in farming” in the Durham countryside, which he shares with his wife, Nicola, and their two children, Luke and Molly.

The 46-year-old famously quite BBC’s The One Show in 2019 to pursue his ambition of making programmes about farming, with his last appearance in 2020. It would appear that he doesn’t regret his family’s uprooting and moving to his family farm.

Speaking to Total TV Guide, the former Blue Peter presenter gushed about the countryside, reports Gloucestershire Live. He explained that he loves the “pace of nature” before explaining that he leads a “double life”.

Matt told Total TV Guide: “The countryside has made me who I am. I love the pace of nature; how the seasons change, and it’s really important. I am immersed in farming. I live a double life, actually! When I’m not on telly, I’m out in the fields.”

He added: “It’s a world I’m incredibly proud of. And it’s a world I want to make shows about. We all hanker for it. I am at my most creative in the countryside. I am dyslexic and I don’t read well, but I love animals.”

Matt has previously spoken to the Mirror about the importance of his family in managing his TV career and the demanding work of a farm, saying it was a “testament to a strong family.”

The much-loved Countryfile star was himself raised around animals on the farm with his parents. He went on to say that working with your family is the “best thing” about growing up on a farm, adding that there “aren’t many industries that support or promote that.”

In the latest series of Our Dream Farm, seven people will take on a series of challenges in an effort to become the tenant of a 600-acre farm in the possession of the National Trust in Eryri, North Wales.

“This is the most nature-rich farm the National Trust has in Wales,” Matt said. “The series is a practical job interview, and these candidates are an incredible bunch of people, from builders to experienced farmers, and even a mother-and-son combo.”
