Defection of BRS MLAs: SC to hear case on March 3

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court will hear the defection case of BRS legislators on March 3. The case, pertaining to the Assembly Speaker’s perception of ‘reasonable time’ was earlier adjourned to February 18. The bench, which is hearing the case, did not sit on that day as the judges were occupied with a Constitution Bench over other issues.
Mohit Rao, counsel for BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and party MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, who filed SLPs seeking directions to the Speaker to dispose of disqualification petitions on the defected BRS MLAs, on Thursday requested the court to give an appropriate time for the hearing.
Medigadda barrage collapse: Telangana HC to hear KCR’s petition today
Former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and former minister T. Harish Rao’s petition against Bhupalpally court orders on the complaint of N. Rajalinga Murthy, who was murdered on Wednesday, will be heard by the Telangana High Court on Friday.
It was slated for Thursday but due to paucity of time, the case did not come up for hearing. On the request of the counsel for Chandrasekhar Rao and Harish Rao for an extension of the interim orders, the High Court directed the registry to list the case on Friday.
Murthy had requested the Bhupalpally court for criminal action against them on the ground that they were responsible for the sinking of Medigadda barrage piers. Based on his complaint, the Bhupalpally district court had issued summons.
The orders were challenged before the High Court, which stayed the district court orders on December 24.
