Darts world champion Luke Littler has been offered financial guidance by legendary former player Phil Taylor after raking in almost £1 million in prize money last year.

Littler secured winnings amounting to £916,000 in 2024, which, along with his previous year’s haul of £202,500 and an additional £22,500 earned in just over a month this year, brings his total career earnings to a staggering £1,141,000.

Positioned second in the PDC Order of Merit world ranking system, only behind Luke Humphries, who sits at £1,903,250, Littler skyrocketed to fame with over 80 per cent of his earnings generated in 2024 alone.

But his success also propels him into a higher tax bracket, facing a 45 percent tax rate on a sizeable portion of his winnings, which means approximately £500,000 will go to HMRC as income tax.

Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, having won 16 world darts titles and accrued more in prize money than anyone except for Michael van Gerwen, took the opportunity to share some sage advice with the rising star during an interview with SPORTBible:

“Make sure you look after your money,” Taylor remarked.

He suggested, “Two bank accounts – one in one and half in another. So that’s your tax,” recalling: “That’s what I always used to do.

Taylor added: “Try to start investing your money, so if anything happens, if you fall down and break your arm or something, you’ve got something to fall back on.”

With an eye towards the future, Littler has previously hinted at potential investment opportunities, particularly expressing interest in a nearby non-league football club.

“It would be an investment for myself in the coming years,” he explained.

“I’ve got a local team, Warrington Town, who are in National League North… Maybe that could be an idea for the future.”

Before becoming the youngest-ever world champion in the sport’s history, Littler attended one of Warrington’s matches in October.

After the 2-0 victory, he shared a post from the club, stating, “First game and a win, up the Town.”
