U of R Rams player charged in drug bust released on conditions

Michael Jourdan, a university-level football player facing fentanyl trafficking charges, has been released from custody on conditions.

With consent from the Crown, the 21-year-old was granted release on a series of conditions following an appearance in Regina provincial court Monday.

Jourdan, who is from Toronto, faces multiple charges related to fentanyl trafficking, a charge for the commission of an offence for a criminal organization, and a charge for possessing the proceeds of crime.

He’s one of five people recently arrested and charged after a four-month-long drug trafficking investigation by the Regina Police Service (RPS).

According to an RPS news release, officers seized 7.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 476 grams of cocaine, 22 grams of methamphetamine and more than $150,000 in cash at the time of the arrest, with the estimated value of all items at $1.5 million.

Jourdan must now abide by his release conditions, which include: attending court when required, reporting to his probation office, abstaining from alcohol or drugs not prescribed to him, and not attending businesses which primarily sell marijuana or alcohol.

He is ordered to have no contact with fellow co-accused football player Tarick Polius except for school and football practice. He is not allowed to have contact with any of the other three co-accused: Emmanuel Ramadan Bashir, Morteza Ahadi and Randal Lee Racette.

Additional conditions include that he cannot possess a firearm and cannot possess a smartphone except for one registered in his name.

The court ordered him to deposit his American passport to police within 24 hours of release and his Canadian passport by March 7 at 4 p.m.

He is expected to appear in Regina provincial court again later in March.

Jourdan and Polius were on the University of Regina Rams’ roster for 2024. However, the school has since said the players will remain suspended from the team until the outcome of the charges against them have been determined.

The Crown confirmed in an email to the Leader-Post that, as of early Wednesday morning, Jourdan is the only one of the five charged to have received bail.
